We are humbled and honoured to share the story of an individual whose legacy continues to inspire us every day. For over 50 years, Wayne was a happy and engaged customer at our Breakthru Parramatta Hub. When asked about Wayne, Corrina Down, an employment support worker at Breakthru, had plenty to say.
“I think about how thoughtful, kind, caring, empathetic and supportive Wayne was to everyone who knew him. He was a gentle soul who was well liked by everyone. Although gentle in nature, he also had a fierce love of horse racing, Canterbury Bulldogs and footy tipping. Wayne kept us in check to make sure his bets were placed and his tips were done. Wayne also loved Chinese food and Coca Cola. These simple life pleasures made him extremely happy. In saying that, Wayne also loved a great party – the food, music, being with others, and having a great time."
Wayne’s loving father, Harold, who sadly passed away in 2003, left funds in trust for Wayne to ensure he could continue living independently. Then, in Wayne’s will, he left the remainder of this estate to Breakthru when he unfortunately passed away in 2022. This generous gift left by Harold and Wayne will live on in both their names and enable Breakthru to support many more clients just like Wayne. Their act of generosity has not only provided vital resources, but also serves as a testament to the enduring power of empathy and solidarity. Thanks to Harold and Wayne, we have been able to expand our reach, touch more lives, and offer hope to those who need it most.
Harold and Wayne believed in our vision, in the transformative impact of rehabilitation, and in the inherent dignity of every individual. Their legacy lives on in the smiles of those we serve, in the triumphs of those who defy the odds, and in the unwavering and defiant spirit that guides us forward. Their bequest was not just a gift of financial support, but proof of an enduring legacy of kindness, compassion, and love.
