Wheelchair service

Thank you very much to our Foundation donors—a 70-year-old client of our Brain Injury Unit was able to afford to have his wheelchair serviced.

Prior to his injury, the client lived a healthy and independent life: he cycled regularly, sailed with friends, travelled with his partner and family and enjoyed taking photos. This gentleman sustained a severe traumatic brain injury following a cycling accident.

As a result of his injury the client had no active movement in the left side of his body so required a wheelchair for mobility. Due to his high level of care needs, the client and his family had no other option but for him to be discharged to a residential aged care facility.

Although this essential service came at a high cost it was required to ensure his and others' safety. Owing to his age at the time of the accident, the client was no longer eligible for the NDIS. The client and his family had no other funding available to cover the cost of maintaining his disability-specific equipment, specifically his wheelchair.
