It's sometimes the little things we take for granted that count.
After a nasty fall just before his 80th birthday party, a client was admitted to our Spinal Injury Unit due to the fall resulting in paraplegia.
This gentleman was naturally desperate to return home to his family who would provide the bulk of his care, including hoist transfer and personal and bowel care.
Although this client had a home care package, not much funding remained after the following was paid for:
• specialised bed hire
• pressure care mattress
• hoist
• sling
This aged client required custom-made equipment, including a bespoke commode to protect his frail skin from injury. Although the client's dedicated social worker managed to source funds from two other charitable organisations, a significant amount was still required to fund an interim commode for three months whilst his purchased commode was being built and delivered.
With the generosity of our donors, this client returned home to his loved ones sooner rather than having to remain in our rehab unit waiting for his equipment to arrive.
